Having read a brief reference to this 1961 tragedy, and the subsequent book, I followed through with Kindle/Amazon to consider purchasing it. Although it received 4 out of 5 stars, many reviewers critiqued the authors' rendition as "boring". DEFINITELY NOT TRUE! It is very well-written. The details and atmosphere bring the reader immediately and intimately into this 11-year old girl's horrific experience, her incredible survival and the repercussions on her life and the lives of others. Also intriguing, is the follow-up on the personality of the perpetrator and the personal disintegration that brought him to his final end. A wonderful, can't-put-down read!
I can not imagine anyone leaving for the vacation of a lifetime at the tender age of eleven only to find that it will change the circumstances of her life forever. I can not imagine how Tere survived other than surely God had a plan and purpose for her life beyond that day at sea.In part maybe to help many others whose family was a victim of Harvey's years before Tere and only now do they know truth. Or possibly to stop him this time for good,or maybe it was so her own family lived on because Terry Jo refused to die too. A remarkable child faced with horrific tragedy lives on to become a remarkable reminder that love triumphs over hate, mercy over hate and good over greed!
From page 1, to the final page I found many things about this story,To wonder how any human could continue,to carry on and survive toarrive alive at the end...Get your book today, it's perhaps the best book I've ever read....
A riveting story of childhood trauma and recovery, some written by the adult who experienced it as a child. I found it hard to put down.It could benefit from some better editing, but that's a minor point.
I appreciated the factual nature of this book. Though Tere survived a horrible tragedy in her youth, she never gave up. A woman to be admired for her courage and strength.
While I found Tere's story to be utterly fascinating, unfortunately the writing didn't match it. The authors are obviously not skilled writers, but I am so grateful that they told this incredible story of perseverance and survival.
I read an online news article about this story and looked up the book. I almost didn't get it because of the negative reviews but decided to take a chance. I'm glad I did. I found it an encouraging story. I did notice some typos but overall not that bad. The story itself was as real as it gets and told as best as they could. It's a life story not a novel.
Touching true story of girls survival in a ocean after her parents ship taken by criminal. Imteresting as her case also started life saving devices are required color orange. Her case , as she became adult, increased study of PTSS, not understood at time her ordeal.
